Austin Bond Hearing Reduction Lawyers

Bond Reduction Hearings

When a person is charged with a crime and then arrested, there is a bond hearing during which a magistrate, a judge who handles procedural duties, will set the amount of bond for a person. This amount is the amount of money that a person must pay to the court in order to be out of jail while awaiting a trial.

There are three options for bond: a “surety bond”, a “cash bond”, or a “PR bond.” A surety bond will require that you contact a bondsman to assist you in posting bond. If this is the case, the Austin Criminal Defense office of Morales & Navarrete will be able to point you in the correct direction. The other option is a cash bond. A cash bond involves paying the court a set amount of money to be released. If the terms of your bond are followed to the letter, the money will be returned to you at the end of your case, save for a few clerk fees. The final option is a PR bond. This bond doesn’t require any money to change hands but it is not generally used in most criminal cases.

If your bond is set at a number that you cannot hope to pay and you meet the requirements for a bond reduction, we can help you by scheduling a bond reduction hearing. Because the original bond hearing only allowed the police or prosecutors to tell their side of the story, a bond reduction hearing can be scheduled so that you can tell your side of the story. The object is to have the amount of bond that is owed reduced to a level that allows you out of jail while you await trial. The Austin Criminal Defense Lawyers of Morales & Navarrete are here to help during this difficult time.
