Cockfighting
Human beings like to have fun and to engage in pastimes. Most of the times, peoples pastimes are harmless and acceptable. Others times, however, humans beings engage in illegal and cruel pastimes, causing harm to other living beings. Cockfighting is one such unacceptable, illegal, and cruel pastime.
Cockfighting, as the name implies, involves getting chickens to fight one another. Cockfighting is very cruel. Chickens, which naturally do not want to fight each other, are forced to fight one another by various methods. Moreover, they are made to carry various implements for fighting purposes. They have razors put on them to make them more deadly, for example. Also, and disgustingly, chickens are injected with steroids to make them stronger. Cockfights end when one of the chickens dies. They are bloody and vicious events.
Cockfighting is outlawed in every state. In Texas, people are legally permitted to raise and breed chickens for fighting as well to teach others how to breed and raise chickens for fighting; however, cockfighting itself is illegal. Because Texas makes the exception it does, for most people the next step to cockfighting is not far off. To make a significant step towards seriously ending cockfighting and towards showing that it does not approve of the cruelty of cockfighting, Texas will have to outlaw raising and breeding these chickens as well as allowing the teaching of methods for those purposes as well.
