Methamphetamines

Methamphetamine is a very dangerous, Schedule II drug. Schedule II simply means that the substance is highly addictive and has very dangerous properties, but still retains some medical use. For this reason, it is not entirely illegal. However, most methamphetamines used in the United States are not used legally. Because of this, the Drug Enforcement Administration has a heavy focus on the trafficking and use of methamphetamines in its war on drugs.

The DEA is so focused on rooting out the trafficking and use of methamphetamines that the penalties for being caught with them can be steep and have an extremely negative effect on your personal and professional life.

If you are caught with anywhere between 5 and 49 grams pure or 50-499 grams mixture, you could be facing serious charges. For a first offense you will be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison, but no less than 5 years. On top of this you could be fined up to $2 million. For a repeat offense, you can be imprisoned for anywhere from 10 years to life with a fine up to $4 million.

The penalties are even higher if there is a death or serious injury associated with your case. Also, if you are caught with 50 grams or more pure, or 500 grams or more mixture, the penalties become even steeper.
